Kia ora, I’m Morgan Donoghue

I’m the spokesperson for Ours Not Mines.

I grew up in the Coromandel – it’s my favourite place on Earth.

My earliest years were spent living in eco-communes with my parents, living close to nature. This experience has made me passionate about protecting the native species unique to our corner of the world.

I’ve spent the last thirty-odd years in the global music industry. I’ve been the Global Head of Music at Vodafone and Director of Marketing at EMI/Virgin Music, I organised two Big Day Out festivals and over 100 tours from international music artists. I get real joy from bringing people together.

Living around the world has made me appreciate even more what we sometimes take for granted here in Aotearoa. We’ve got to fight to protect our taonga species and pristine natural environment for generations to come, or risk losing it.

That’s why I’m standing up against the proposed Oceana Gold mine in Wharekirauponga, and all mines built on conservation land.

I’m a huge supporter of this Government. I consider the Prime Minister and Clarke to be good friends, and I try to help the Labour Party out wherever possible. But that doesn’t mean I think Labour is perfect. And the beauty and sanctity of the Coromandel comes first.
